Let’s Get To Know The Author…
Hello! I’m Lorra, but honestly everybody knows me as Emma’s mom. I wear many many hats but being a MOM is truly my favorite. I guess you could say I’ve been a lifelong crafter, the art room was my favorite place to hang out in school.
When we had our oldest daughter Kelsey, I became a scrapbooker. Kelsey has so many books filled with so many beautiful well thought out pages of memories and our youngest child, Nolan has a nearly blank baby book. Now I know I’m not the only one who has a story like that!!
Emma is our middle child. All of our kids are a blessing but Emma just happened to be blessed with Down syndrome. Down syndrome just means that Emma has an extra 21st chromosome, and quite frankly she rocks it!! We are truly the lucky ones though, as Kelsey and Nolan have grown and are finding their own way in this world Emma is still the center of ours. We still get to see her pure JOY everyday, her love for her birthday and Christmas. She has grown to love to help and take care of others, especially old people…like me and her grandparents! Don’t get me wrong Emma leads a very full life, she spends four days a week going to a day hab program to hang out with her friends and she has a job at a local cafeteria she enjoys going to every Friday. She loves to listen to music, Post Malone is her favorite. Her favorite cartoon is Scooby Doo and she loves to watch zombie shows.
Notice I didn’t say that she loves to spend time crafting with me?? Believe it or not I started this little business because I thought she was going to need something to fill her days after she graduated from high school in 2021. Boy was I wrong, she was real quick to tell me “geeze mom” which meant she had better things to do!! Although I am truly a little sad that she doesn’t want to hang out and get creative together like I had envisioned, I did quickly realize that I love to make things to take to craft shows and farmers markets. Helping others have a beautifully decorated home for all the seasons makes me happy. I now have a fully furnished wood working shop but not enough time to do all the things…I’m still trying to convince Keith he should become a woodworker as well as be the leadman for the set up and tear down crew for shows.
As with almost any new business endeavor it rarely ends up looking the exact way it started. Same holds true for my hobby/side hustle as I’m now also selling my handmade items online and starting a blog to share crafting tutorials and my joyful journey of being Emma’s mom. I do have a collaboration in the works that will allow Emma to use some of her best skills while spreading JOY in the process. We aren’t going to let her “Geeze Mom” let her completely off the hook! I look forward to sharing that and all my creations with you very soon.
I’m sure you won’t get bored because I’m somewhat all over the place! I have found a new love for resin and glass art. I have always wanted to be a hand painter who hand letters personalized ornaments so I’m always working on that. My craft room is bursting at the seams with projects just waiting on me to either start or finish them and I look forward to sharing the process with you.
Be sure to come back often to see what’s happening in life and in the studio as I look forward to taking you along with our journey.
See you soon!
