World Down Syndrome Day
Celebrating With Emma Sue
I like to think that we celebrate Emma everyday but there is one day every year that we get to
celebrate everybody who is rocking an extra chromosome! March 21st is World Down
Syndrome Day, a day designated to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the
21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. There are many ways to celebrate this day
but our favorite is to “ROCK OUR SOCKS”…we like to wear mismatched socks to help promote
uniqueness and inclusion. As you might already know Emma is a creature of habit and wears
Scooby Doo socks almost everyday so it kind of throws her for a loop to wear mismatched
socks one day of the year. One of the best ways to get Emma to play along is for us to swap
socks for the day and match our mismatched socks.
This year we decided to do something a little extra special to celebrate. Emma took her own
money and did a little shopping with one specific goal in mind – spreading just a little extra JOY.

Emma purchased 50 pairs of socks to make mismatched sock packs to encourage others to
celebrate World Down Syndrome Day right along with us. We hope that people will spread a
little extra JOY on March 21st as we plan to encourage themto pay it forward with a small
random act of kindness as they rock their socks.
Even if you aren’t blessed to receive one of Emma’s gift packs this year, we know you have a
drawer full of socks so find two of the craziest pairs you got and ROCK YOUR SOCKS!! We
would love it if you would share a picture and drop Emma a little note telling her how much you
enjoyed celebrating her day with her!
Feel free to tag in your social media posts as we all celebrate World Down Syndrome Day
together and as alway, thanks for joining us along our journey.
